Medium Shore A 18–22 polyaddition silicone for podiatry.
An elastomer based on a special silicone polymer developed for the manufacture of strong, functional and durable digital orthoses.
Thanks to its high plasticity, excellent mechanical properties and medium hardness, this polyaddition podiatric silicone allows for the creation of orthoses with a perfect balance between comfort, support and compensatory capacity.
Function: Medium Silicone is particularly suitable for the manufacture of digital orthoses requiring a good level of support and containment, whilst maintaining a high level of comfort for the patient. Its medium hardness makes it ideal for protective and compensatory devices designed to reduce localised pressure, improve toe alignment and promote correct load distribution during walking.
It is the ideal solution for professionals seeking a versatile material, positioned between extremely soft silicones and those with a higher corrective capacity.
Curing: curing takes place at room temperature through a rapid polymerisation reaction that leads to the formation of the final polymer. This process guarantees linear shrinkage close to zero, ensuring dimensional stability, precision during fabrication and a long service life for the orthosis.
Linear shrinkage: linear shrinkage refers to the dimensional change in the silicone following curing. In Medium silicone, this is approximately 0.1%, an extremely low value that allows the orthosis to retain the shape modelled by the professional almost unchanged. This ensures greater precision, dimensional stability and a better fit to the patient’s foot.
Pot Life: the working time available for shaping the orthosis is one of the most important aspects when working with silicone. During this time, the material retains the correct consistency for processing after the two components have been mixed. In Medium Polyaddition Silicone, the pot life is approximately 1 minute and 30 seconds. This means that once mixed, the practitioner has sufficient time to blend the product, mould the orthosis and position it correctly on the patient.
Catalysis: after mixing, the silicone begins the catalysis process, increasing in consistency until it sets completely in less than 5 minutes. During this phase, the polymerisation reaction continues until the polymer is fully formed, which is responsible for the orthosis’s elastic properties and final stability.
This balance between working time and setting speed allows for the creation of precise and comfortable orthoses, optimising operating times in the podiatry practice.
Mixing: mixing in a 1:1 ratio ensures the correct balance between the system’s reactive components. Precise dosing promotes a complete polymerisation reaction, allowing the formation of a stable and homogeneous elastomeric structure. Alterations to the mixing ratios could affect the curing times and the final mechanical properties of the material, compromising the performance of the orthosis produced.

Instructions for use
Mix part A and part B in equal proportions until a homogeneous mixture is obtained. Shape the silicone quickly before catalysis begins to make the most of the available working time. Correct mixing of the two components allows for a smooth polymerisation reaction and the complete formation of the silicone polymer, ensuring the material’s final performance.
Warnings
To preserve the performance of the silicone, it is important to always work in a clean environment and avoid contamination between the two components.
Certain substances may inhibit the polymerisation reaction, compromising the correct curing of the material. Always use clean, dry tools, gloves and spoons. Do not use with latex, powdered gloves, oils or solvents, as these may alter the curing process. Store the product at a temperature between 5°C and 27°C.
